HARRISON came down to dinner that night, just like any other night. He wasn’t remotely in the mood for the chatter of his designers, but he knew it was bad form for him to request dinner in his room. Besides, when he did, there were always waves of questions in the morning, from “Are you sick?” to “Are you upset about something?” He didn’t feel like dealing with the questions. Still, he wanted to be alone. And he wasn’t sure if he could face Sasha after what had happened. The only thing he had left to hope was that everything could calm down. That things would go back to normal.

What a day….

He wasn’t used to guilt. He wasn’t used to being sorry that he’d said something caustic or did something to hurt one of his employees.

But Sasha was right. Usually he insulted their designs, or their own style choices. He’d never insulted one of them as a human being. The worst part was, he didn’t even goddamn think it. He liked Sasha. Sasha was smart, good at his job, friendly, a little bit sassy, and exactly the person that Harrison needed around. Joanne had been right.

It was just the way that Sasha made him feel—like if there was a breeze he could get blown over by, he’d be knocked out flat.

So he dressed, in white linen drawstring pants and a pale mint button-up, and went down to be with his designers. And Sasha. Harrison had expressed his displeasure at Joanne’s ploy quite vocally when he’d called his sister. But she’d had something to say back.

“You’ve been so different the past few weeks, Harry. All of the designers have noticed it. I know you have too. Sasha’s good for you. His ideas are fresh and on point, and if you’d just listen to what he says you might be pleasantly surprised by how good it is for the company as well.”

“And Applebaum’s was his idea?” Harrison had asked.

“No. That’s mine. I know you hate it, and I also know you’re dead wrong. We need something like this to become a household name.”

“I don’t want anything to do with the average household,” Harrison had grumbled. “Maybe Sasha from the middle of godforsaken nowhere doesn’t know that, but my own sister should.”

And that’s when he’d said it. It. And looked up to see Sasha standing in the doorway with his tray that had turned out to be full of scones that Harrison would’ve never asked for but definitely wanted. And they’d shattered all over the floor.

Harrison hadn’t liked it. He didn’t like feeling things for people. He sure as hell didn’t like guilt. But Sasha made him feel guilty—guilty that he wasn’t using Sasha’s talent, guilty about what he’d said. Harrison didn’t know how to deal with guilt. With his mom, he’d just sent her to live in Florida and saw her maybe once a year. With Sasha… he couldn’t send him to Florida. He was going to have to face him.
